So today things were really up and down, perfect for the overly hormonal mom!
When I got in this morning his oxygen levels were way down (which is a good thing) and I got to give him his first bath! It was so much fun getting to wash his little hair and scrub his tiny little hands and armpits and toes and everything in between. I even got to brush his hair after, granted he doesn't have a whole lot to brush, but it was fun none the less. I didn't get any pictures because between the nurse and I our hands were full. He was so cute though all wrapped up in his warm blanket afterwards, I think he might have actually enjoyed his bath!!! It was really sweet getting to spend that time with him yesterday morning.
The downs... they are starting to realize how under developed his poor little lungs really are. He had a rough day needing some pretty high amounts of oxygen through his ventilator. We are trying to ween him down but it just wasn't a great day for him. The NICU is also REALLY busy and it has been pretty loud around here. Because of his small size, the noises and lights can really irritate him and it shows in his stats.
Also, there is a baby next to us who is getting released today. Although I am so happy for them as they get to take their sweet little girl home, it is heart breaking to hear their discharge instructions as your little boy is sick. Also, their baby was crying pretty loud which upset Landon as well. It was just hard to hear their baby cry, that is all we want to hear from our little nugget.
Lastly, although we know he is sick it is upsetting as parents to hear other people say it out loud. (kind of like you can vent about your family all you want but the second someone else does you get defensive of them) We are so happy for the things he is doing well on, his feedings, his weight gain, his blood pressure is good, etc. but it is going to be a long road getting his lungs healthy. We are still hopeful that the steroids will do their job, they said we usually see results in 24 - 48 hours... Friday, June 3rd at 9pm will be 48 hours. Please pray that he shows signs of improvement.
Landon didn't gain any weight today but he also didn't lose any so we are still on the right track. He seems to me like he is getting bigger but that might just be because I am getting used to seeing this tiny little human. It is really fun starting to learn his personality, things he likes, how to calm him down, stuff like that. Anyways, I will hopefully get some more updated pictures for you all soon!
Much love,
Jason and Kristin
