May 31st - Rough Night

So today was Jason's first day back at work since Landon was born.  I know he didn't get much sleep and wasn't looking forward to going back, but is making a sacrifice for us and working as much as he can.  I have come to love my husband so much more during this whole process.  He has really stepped up to take care of his family and shown a new side to me the past few weeks.  I think he is already becoming an amazing father, can't wait to see him playing with Landon sometime down the road.  I am so thankful that I married him and that God is walking with both of us through this process.

Landon had a rought night last night.  His lungs are not as developed as they need to be and he is out of the "honeymoon phase."  Everyone around here expected him to get a little worse before he got better, I just wasn't.  His oxygen levels were up to 100% last night, he was just agitated and not doing well.  When I came in this morning he was doing better but we need to get him off of this jet ventialtor and onto a conventional one.

They also started a PICC line on him this morning.  A PICC line is basically like a long term IV, they run in through his vein up towards his heart.  It will stay in hopefully for most of his stay here, please pray against infection as that could be very detrimental to Landon.  They were able to take out one of the IVs they had in his umbilical cord now that the PICC is in and will take out the second either later today or tomorrow.

Landon did continue to gain weight at his 8pm cares and if I do say so myself, I can getting much better at his diaper changes! We will keep you posted on his status and how his lungs are doing.

May 30th - Getting Close, take 2

So it is Memorial Day and we are at the hospital, pretty sure we pictured ourselves at some pool with cocktails (virgin for me) trying not to get sunburned.  Oh well, plans change... we are learning that lesson repeatedly.  Anyway, we had Lynda again as our nurse and she let us get in with him again.  Thankfully dad was there with the camera, this is my favorite time!!!

You can kind of see him looking around.  It is really bright for him so pirate baby doesn't open his eyes very often.

Oh, random little story.  So we were told we could bring in our own blankets for the bed, so fun!  I immediately went shopping and brought some in that day.  I told her, "these are for whenever you change the bedding next, no rush."  I head off to go pump, come back and bedding is changed.  Wow, they didn't have to do that... nope Landon peed everywhere and they had to change the bedding.  Sure, not ideal situation but Jason got to hold him again and he got his new blanket!  Just looking at the positives.

Updates on Landon today... He no longer needs the Bili Lights so gone are the days of our little Guido.  No more tanning bed and sunglasses!!!  Also, they turned off the humidity in his bed, we just need to get this little nugget growing!  He did gain another 10 ounces at his 8pm cares so we are making steps in the right direction.

May 29th - Prepping for Baby

Today Jason and I are running back and forth to the hospital.  It is our first full day at home and we are trying to figure out our new routine.  We are both wanting to get his room set up, even though we know there is time before he will be able to stay in his bed at home.  After his 8am cares we ran a few errands and while I was putting away all of our hospital stuff and attempting to get the house "back to normal" Jason was working on Landon's room.  We (well, I) wanted to buy a decal for his wall, which would have cost over $200 for the custom size we wanted.  Jason instead painted it for me, saving us TONS of dolla dolla bills!

Oh, but the tree would not be complete without a little buddy...

Granted, I took these pictures with my phone but how cute did that turn out?!?!  My hubby is quite talented!

They weigh Landon during his 8pm cares and sweet Landon gained weight again tonight, he gained 10 ounces!!! Keep it up little man!!!  I also don't know if I have mentioned it before now but he is taking 1cc of breast milk per hour.  He is tolerating his food really well which is great news.  Apparently not all babies are able to digest breast milk at this young age.  Also, he is peeing and pooping regularly.  I know most of you don't want to hear about his bowel movements but it means that his internal organs are functioning properly so it is really good news.

May 28th - It's the little things...

So today was really fun, we had some things happen today that only preemie parents can get excited about!  :)  His bedding needed to be changed today so Jason got to pick up Landon for the first time.  So far, we have only been able to touch him so this was REALLY COOL.  Also, I think Jason may have only held one or two other babies in his life so I was really excited for him. 

I LOVE this picture, Jason just looks like such a proud dad.

Also, Landon's left eye opened today!!!  We currently have a little "pirate baby" but I don't care.  It was so exciting to see him him open his tiny little eye and start looking around... It's the little things people!  Oh, and for the first time today he gained weight.  He gained 40 ounces , we are very happy!

Today was a little bittersweet though.  I was released from the hospital after a week and half stay.  I am really looking forward to sleeping in bed with my husband again, taking showers in my own house, not living out of a suitcase and mostly not getting poked at throughout the night by nurses.  It is really hard to leave though because I left no longer pregnant but also not with a baby in my arms.  We both know that Landon is well taken care of at the hospital, its just not how you picture things happening.  We stayed at the hospital for most of the morning and early afternoon, spent a few hours at home and then headed back at night to do his 8pm cares and make sure he was doing well so we could sleep a little more soundly.  We pray for him nightly before we go home and hope for good news every morning.  We are anxiously awaiting the day Landon can come home with us.

May 27th - Getting Close!

Today our wonderful nurse let us get a little closer to Landon.  He was doing well so they let us open up his bed so we could actually touch him, not through the little holes on the side.  We did cares like this and then just got to hangout with him for 10 minutes or so.  It was one of the most wonderful experiences ever.  Don't worry, I definitely cried because that was the closest I had ever been to our sweet boy.
